Among other reasons: 1) it follows the beauty of the natural order… from the green up (the first decade, as with Sheen’s missionary rosary) to the sky blue (the final, 5th decade) and
2) it follows the corresponding chronology and thematic hue of mood and mystery of the traditional 15 mysteries [instead of Sheen’s red>white>(and a skip over the blue to the) gold]. That is, we have that of white (Joyful) > to red (Sorrowful) > to gold (Glorious).
3) it can even take an EXTRA emphasis which I’ll now explain….
As the Mystical Rose rather prophetically spoke of her 3rd Rose as “yellow-gold” or, in the original Italian “giallo-oro” – even scientists affirm that yellow is the most luminous of colors, while oft associated with the sun in color – so, too, the MRMRosary can have a special connection with our DWCR. The DWCR is the Definitive Weekly Cycle of the Rosary [that was presented to the Vatican in the Year of St. Paul]. It has 7 sets of mysteries so that there is a distinct one for each day of the week, rather than favoritisms/overlaps of a couple… but mainly to bring forth more contemplation of what was (O.T. Marian mysteries, and covenantal Jewish ones, hoping for the conversion of Protestants and Jews, too), currently is (1st Unitive Mystery) and what is to come (the last 4 Unitive ones).
How would this work out? Since Green (for Africa) is the 1st Decade in both the MRMRosary and in the Missionary Rosary (so beloved to Bl. John 23rd and to Latin America), it would stand in chronologically reflective color for what are the Monday Mysteries (Prophetic) and Tuesday Mysteries (Purgative) in the DWCR… Green for these O.T. mysteries (alluded to by Bl. Catherine Emmerick as those of the original mysteries that got shrouded over until a hermit discovers them) – since Green and O.T. lays the groundwork for the following Joyful Mysteries in particular (see Emmerick on the rosary). [Of course, any one set of Mysteries on a given day would only follow the 5 mysteries of the day and not all 7 sets of Mysteries of our DWCR. So, this color layout is operating on a specific level while also making a general chronologically historical harmony of color as well.] Naturally, Green then leads to White (Joyful) which go traditionally with St. Joseph – votive Masses recommended for him on Wednesdays (perfect chronology in sequence). Thereafter follow the Luminous for Thursday (this color gets skipped over in the 5-decade rosary) and the Sorrowful (Red) for Friday, then the (Yellow-)Gold for the Glorious, followed by the Blue for Sunday’s 5 Unitive Mysteries – its 3rd mystery being that of the New Heavens and the New Earth.
So the O.T. is like the grass for the N.T. white, and red, and gold mysteries leading to the blue future ones that are prophesied in Apocalypse, while allowing as the 1st Unitive the only contemporary one – The Woman and the dragon -- also a kind of sky affair as well – blue – for the war breaks out there with She Who is seen in the sky crowned with 12 stars and Who appears like Our Lady of Guadalupe – Star of the New Evangelization – and Who is celebrated 12-12 each year – December 12.
So, in simple summary: Green > White > Red > Yellow-Gold > Blue. Perfect line-up on both the historical order as well as the natural order from the grass to the sky.
Finally, while the Yellow would precede the Red (Luminous before Sorrowful) this is no problem since every rosary has only 5 decades, only 5 colors both for those of our MRMRosarium as well as Sheen’s Missionary Rosary.
While the prophetic expression of yellow came into the glorious color of gold, it doesn’t upset the order of the MRMRosarium sequence of color… besides the DWCR has 7 different sets of mysteries anyway, one for every day of the week, and we wouldn’t have 7 different decades or colors. So, from Green (Prophetic-Purgative Mysteries) to White (Joyful-Josephite ones, too) to Red (Sorrowful) to [Yellow]-Gold [Luminous]-Glorious to Blue (Unitive), we have the chronological color code in perfect order since only 5 colors are used for the 5 decades. To split them would offset the chronology between red and gold (5 yellow ones for the Luminous and 5 for the Glorious) since the Luminous comes before the Sorrowful. So, we leave the whole chronological reflection intact by emphasizing more the gold (in the color of the beads) as also leaving the Green to incorporate the two whole sets of Prophetic and Purgative.
So, regardless of the general reflection of the DWCR in the MRMRosarium, the MRMRosary is in itself of the 5 colors of mysteries in their proper chronological and natural hue order for any Set of 5 Mysteries: from the grass or even the stem to the white rose, to the red rose, to the gold rose or halo of light that brightens up the rose to the sky blue above.
