While we have an extended family in Heaven already saved, we certainly can have family struggles here on earth. Yet the Lumen Gentium (LG Ch.1 #22) doctrine of hope for anyone of goodwill can serve as the BEST NUCLEUS for family love, peace, harmony and, aboveall, GRACE in any family for everlasting salvation. Why? While truth is to be proclaimed, the Host received, etc. still the Angelic Doctor St. Thomas Aquinas, taught that “God will judge us according to the lights we have, and not the lights we don’t have.”
So tho we are to never to be ashamed of Christ or His words - or else He will be ashamed of us when He returns in glory with all of His holy angels (Lk 9:26) – and are called to “preach the word in season and out” (2 Tm 4:2) as “faith comes by hearing” (Rm 2:17) -- this is one of the best words to be able to really help any family members. Again, that ANY PERSON OF GOODWILL CAN BE SAVED. These words can help any of our lost sheep: sinning sheep not mortally lost, sheep astray in mortal sin yet contrite, and possibly even ‘wolves’ (the most vicious and criminal of people) often in the most unusual of families. What words in the Bible connect and can memorably serve so well with this official LG Church doctrine? That of Luke 2:14 “Glory to God in the highest; and on earth PEACE TO PEOPLE OF GOODWILL.” Why? For until they have what Episcopal Conferences and Popes have described as ‘the life-transforming encounter with Christ,’ any members of our families can be far more drawn to other ‘creeds’ or whatever especially makes them ‘feel at home’ with others. For unless they come to a personally real faith in the Risen Christ, the Christian lifestyle of the Crucified One [discipleship in His doctrine of daily crosses and self-denial (Mt 16:24)] seems quite apart from their survival instincts, fallen-nature passions, modern cultural charms, etc. So, while such ‘sheep’ or worse may be loose in families, we want to center mainly upon whatever goodwill they have, while kindly and compassionately sharing HOW HAVING HOPE to discover the Risen Lord can be yet a main part of their lives.
Sometimes prayer for ‘the life-transforming encounter with Christ’ can take years of patience, depending upon God’s plan for why and such. Yet the verse on “knock and the door will be opened” can be implanted into them by sharing it with them, and even how it’s no accident that it is found right in Matthew 7:7, for while 7 is not Biblically the “lucky #,” IT IS Biblically the # of fullness, completion, etc. Surely knocking/invoking Mary unto Christ is the short-cut door-opener, too. For honoring the Holy Family as well makes doors open even more: calling also upon St. Joseph, even as our 1st American & Jesuit Pope added him more into the Mass, as Joseph’s name even means – “he will be added to (by God).” How neat that Dec. 1st begins the first full Advent day this 2013 Year and with Romans Ch. 13, too, in the Mass readings; incorporating verse 13 too (13:11-14). Here’s that Rm 13:13 verse, very helpful too to families: “… let us conduct ourselves properly as in the day…” [or] “… let us live decently as people do in the daytime” [or] “Let us walk honestly, as in the day…” (different Bible versions).
While some traditionally entitle December as the Month of the Divine Infancy, it can also be open to bringing the ‘MM’ months into it: ‘mountain-mover’ months of March and May, in the sense of Joseph’s and Mary’s faith levels. As the Year of Faith ended, we can have ‘faith to move mountains,’ as even the abbot St. Gregory the ‘Thaumaturge’ (Wonder-worker, not ‘magician’) miraculously moved a hill once. Behold -- M&M are also the only ones of a married couple, and which can be moved into a December build-up of the Infant with His parents, as the Month of the Holy Family. Too, most of December has the role of Joseph the Protector of the Holy Family and the whole Church, and en route to Bethlehem with Them.
While babies are under attack, mainly in many ‘womb-tombs,’ families per se are also on the enemy-fire chart lists as priority targets. Too, whether one’s immediate family or religious family or other – parish level, Congregational level, 3rd Order level, etc. Why? The enemy has no family spirit even as ‘legion,’ whereas Heaven is the family of Our Abba Father and Imma Mother (‘Imma’ is Aramaic for ‘Mom’), in perfect peace, joy, rest, glory, etc. as our Heavenly Father is Perfection Itself, and our Heavenly Mother All-perfect. Jesus even spoke about a saint to another saint as His “perfect friend,” even though she saw that he had to go a moment into purgatory, which rather shocked her: St. Margaret Mary regarding the “perfect” St. Claude. Jesus explained that the moment in purgatory was for a slight amendment to Divine Offices since St. Claude didn’t perfectly recite it at times. How much more purgatory may we have to have? Christmas is the time when most souls get to leave purgatory, too, according to credible mystics.
The United Nations set up May 15 as the International Day for the Family. Some thought of February for a month dedicated to the Holy Family. Yet we explain in that month why it could easily be named the Month of the Church, due to its two principal celebrations (2nd and 22nd). Others have even set March for the Holy Family (not formally in the Church or indulgenced so).
Have a Blessed & Holy (prolife) December Month of the Holy Family [especially 12:1 Advent, 12:12 Guadalupe, and 12:25 Christmas Day.]
